I've decided to start sharing my experience, learnings, and knowledge in the form of posts. While "we might be in an AI bubble" since everyone is talking about AI, I've learned that I myself might be in an AI bubble.
Why? Over the last few months, the more I talk with people about what I've been doing, learning, and building with GenAI, I've noticed that to most people I'm speaking a foreign language.
Over the past year, I've been diving deep into all things AI. From learning theoretical concepts to hands-on practical applications, I've been immersing myself in as much as possible. I've made it a point to try out every new tool and framework as soon as it's released (this required me to go back and freshen up on python), staying up-to-date with the latest benchmarks and advancements. As a "tech person" that needs to understand how things work, especially so I can share it with others, this journey has given me a unique perspective on the current state and future potential of AI technology.
Most people have tried ChatGPT or at least heard of it, but that's where it seems like the public awareness on AI both starts and stops. The truth is that since the advent of the computer, we have been talking and working towards artificial intelligence. The latest fad or awareness of GenAI has come from the great success of Sam Altman's OpenAI... but that's just one shiny piece of the puzzle.
From how I've seen people use ChatGPT (and how I used it at first), there are many better ways to use it, and there are also many other tools available. The world of AI is always changing and advancing, and there are many concepts, ideas, and theories that once understood could greatly help everyone understand it and use it better. In the same breath, as fast as this is all moving, I believe that we will reach AGI (Artifical General Intelligence) very soon and these tools will become so easy that we won't have to think about it too much. In any case, I will start writing and sharing my learnings and experiences, and I will try to make concepts and ideas easy to understand so that we can all benefit from the recent advancements in AI.
AI is not Skynet, at least not yet. For me right now, it seems like we are going in the direction of (one of my favorite movies) "Her". I don't think AI will take our jobs, but I do believe that those who know how to use AI might take our jobs.
