Perplexity Vs SearchGPT Vs Google

I rarely search with Google anymore. For searching the web, I rely on AI, specifically Perplexity.AI. It's become an integral part of my workflow, replacing Google for everything from medical research to product comparisons and tech troubleshooting. What I love about Perplexity is its grounding in internet data, which means it has reduced hallucinations (making things up) compared to other LLMs. It also provides sources and works great even on the free plan.

As far as I'm aware, Perplexity isn't an AI itself but a platform leveraging various AI models like ChatGPT and Claude, pairing their LLM capabilities with its own internet browsing and toolset. This results in thoughtful, grounded, and helpful outputs with rare hallucinations.

It's pretty wild how these AI search tools are changing the search game. I used to spend hours jumping between different websites, forums, Reddit posts, trying to piece together information. Now, with Perplexity, it's like having an assistant who does all that legwork for me. It doesn't just spit out a list of links – it actually understands what I'm asking and gives me a clear, concise answer. It's saved me so much time and headache, especially when I'm trying to understand something complex or technical. I'm surprised how Google hasn't been able to do this yet; it blows my mind really.

Now, OpenAI has announced SearchGPT, promising a similar experience to Perplexity. It aims to provide comparable features but exclusively leveraging GPT-4. SearchGPT boasts contextual understanding, real-time data access, and enhanced user interaction, potentially offering more personalized responses and a more premium, fine-tuned product that can and should be expected from OpenAI.

Competition is great; it drives innovation, and I'm eager to see how OpenAI will revolutionize search with SearchGPT.

The big question: Will SearchGPT compete with or surpass Perplexity? My expectations are high, but we'll only know once we get our hands on it, as users must sign up for a waiting list to get access.

I'm hoping it won't be another case of hype without delivery (*cough* Sora and GPT-4o's Advanced Voice Chat *cough*).

While we all wait for access to SearchGPT, I highly recommend giving Perplexity a try!
